A Licensed Educational Psychologist (LEP) is a highly specialized professional dedicated to supporting children with special needs in educational environments. LEPs possess advanced training in educational and school psychology, focusing on understanding the unique learning and behavioral challenges students may face. Their expertise centers on conducting comprehensive psychoeducational assessments to identify learning disabilities, attention deficits, and other school-related difficulties. Through collaboration with teachers, parents, and school teams, LEPs develop tailored interventions and strategies that help students succeed academically and socially. LEPs play a crucial role in the development and implementation of IEPs and Section 504 plans. In contrast, clinical psychologists are trained to address a broad spectrum of mental health concerns across various settings, such as clinics and hospitals, providing psychotherapy, psychological testing, and interventions for issues ranging from mood disorders to trauma.
We support children and adolescents with a variety of needs, including anxiety, depression, behavioral challenges, ADHD, autism spectrum differences, learning differences, sensory processing, and school-related concerns. We recognize and value neurodiversity, viewing neurological differences as natural variations rather than deficits.
Our practice works with children, adolescents, and young adults. We work with ages 2 through early adulthood (college age).
Yes, we consult with teachers and school staff, participate in IEP meetings, and provide recommendations for classroom accommodations and inclusive practices that honor neurodiversity.
We are located in Pacifica, but serve children and families throughout the Bay Area. On the coast, we see many clients from Half Moon Bay, Daly City, and Montara. We will travel to the North Bay (Marin), East Bay (Alameda, Berkeley, Oakland), and South Bay (Campbell, Cupertino, San Jose).
We provide neurodiversity-affirming psychological assessments, school neuropsychological assessments, individual and family therapy, parent consultation, speech assessments and therapy, school advocacy, and support for educational planning (such as IEPs and 504 plans).
Assessment begins with an intake interview, followed by strengths-based, standardized testing and observations. We emphasize understanding each child's unique profile, including their strengths, interests, and challenges. Results are discussed in a feedback session, and a comprehensive report is provided with affirming recommendations.
The duration varies based on individual needs. Assessments typically require 2–4 sessions, while therapy may be short-term or ongoing depending on goals and preferences.
